Hello, parents!
This week, we have been absolutely engrossed in our usual truckload of awesome learning. And, as always, we have been taking great care in developing our skills and schema to use in our daily lives. Here’s a bit of what we did this week!
MATH
In math this week, we have been working on developing our knowledge in conversion, such as days to seconds and miles to feet.
WRITING
This week in writing, we have begun to develop our skills in informative writing. We have been accomplishing this by observing nonfiction articles and their authors’ styles. We call this our ‘Check It Out!’ phase, in which we collect information and begin to analyze informative writing styles.
READING & INQUIRY
This week, I will be including this special column in which the reading and inquiry will be delivered together. You’ll see why.
In inquiry, we have begun our new topic, “Where We Are In Place & Time”, in which we are studying the development of the United States of America. To learn more about this momentous time period, we have formed lit circles, in which a group of 4-6 kids all reading the same book discuss what they’ve read. Each of the groups have a set number of chapters they are to read per day, and so far, we’ve found the books on our land’s creation absolutely fascinating!
Next week we will be continuing our Lit Circles for "Where We Are In Place & Time" (students should be reading and taking notes over the weekend), trying our own hands at some informative writing, and getting into adding and subtracting fractions, all while throwing in some holiday cheer to boot.
Specials next week: Library, Music, P.E., Technology, Rhythms
Reminders:
