We spent this week experiencing different forms of government in our classroom - monarchy, democracy, consensus, and wise elder. Each day decisions were made (or weren't made!) that had an impact on our classroom, and students experienced the pros and cons first-hand.
We also assessed our knowledge of calculating volume and utilizing problem solving strategies today in math. Next week we'll be getting into some 2D geometry, classifying different shapes based on their properties.
In reading we will be continuing our lit circles discussions, with most groups finishing their first book and starting on a second, all while doing our best writing about reading to develop strong theories that we can find evidence for throughout the book.
We are also nearing the end of our first published piece in writing: a personal narrative, hopefully with a deeper theme included. If you didn't hear about it at conferences, ask your child to tell you what they are writing about and what the "heart" of their story is.
We finished up our week with a fantastic Art Lit presentation and created some great pieces. They will be on display in the glass showcase at the top of the main stairway. Pictures are below.
Try to stay dry this weekend!
