After a month-long hiatus due to snow and other time constraints, our class bloggers are back with a fantastic update. Enjoy!
Reading:
This week in reading we started our NONFICTION unit. We got non-fiction reading groups, we got to choose from books such as King George: What was his Problem?, The Boston tea Party, and A history of US. We write main ideas and find supporting details from that chapter. Guess what, you are reading nonfiction text right now. Can’t wait for more!
Writing:
This week writing was a blast!! First we got to do something called tabloids. We came up with silly sentences like “harry granny ate my spoon with talking cats”. We did a gallery walk where we walked around the room and looked at what others wrote. We defined the verbs, nouns and other stuff. Then, the next day we had a sub so we got to free write. Yay!!! We had a sub again the next day so more free writing for us. Then…..more free writing!! But after that we went on a new website called No Red Ink. We used what we knew about spelling and grammar and took some fun tests. We even got to personalize them with our friends names and celebrities. Mine went something like “In the past (or passed) tobin heath ate a cupcake.” It was fun. ‘Till next week.
Math:
This week in math we worked more on decimals. We are also learning about GB, KB, MB and B ( gigabyte, kilobytes, Megabytes, and bites). Were learning the difference between them. Did you know that 1 gigabyte is equal to 1,000 megabytes??? Cool right? The next day we did a problem set about KL, L, KG, G, MM, CM, M, KM, etc. So overall we had an amazing week in math!
Pyp:
This week in pyp we learned about explorers. We learned that there were settlers and natives. We also learned about their perspectives of what was happening to the land. We read articles and watched videos on how the settlers survived the new climate, land, and lifestyle. Overall PYP was AWESOME!!!!!
