From the desk of Press Secretary Nitham. S: Math: This week we finished up our new unit : Module 3. We did our End of Unit Assessment, Most of the problems were Word Problems. Now our Next unit is going to be Module 4. We will be learning how to multiply and divide decimals. PYP: This week we started our New PYP unit: How We Organize Ourselves. We learned how Laws are made and we learned what the 10 Amendments were. We mostly memorized it by a song. Valentines Day Party: This week was our Valentines Day Party! We also did word problems without using a model. We also did our weekly quiz on adding and subtracting fractions. Writing: This week we continued writing our research report. We are in the stage of making [another] draft. After that we can Edit and Revise then finally we can publish!!! We did some research on subtopics we need to improve on. Reading: This week we finished reading our lit circle books. We also finished our PYP unit: Where We Are In Place And Time. Some groups have still haven’t finished so they will have another meeting soon. Art Lit: On Thursday we had art lit! We learned about an artist named Grant Wood. Math : This week we started our new module, Module 3. In this unit students will learn how to add and subtract fractions. We also learned how to add fractions with unlike denominators. We found out how to show a model for adding fractions. PYP : This week we kept on reading our lit circle book. Some groups started a whole new book to read. We are taking our knowledge about the American Revolution and adding it to our writing. See Writing for details Writing : This week we started (continued) our new writing unit, informative. We took our knowledge about the American Revolution and are going to make a whole book (research paper) about the American Revolution. Math : This week we reviewed our whole unit. We did our module 2 Assessment. For homework we got a 24 paged review math packet. We did ½ of it at home and school each day. PYP: This week we continued to read our lit circle books. We started reading the historic fiction books because we could have a perspective on how to patriots and indians felt during the American Revolution. Reading: This week we started reading a new read aloud book called Sofia’s War By Avi Mr. Basham here: This week we wrapped up our Multiplication and Division Unit with a test today. Look for it to come home on Tuesday after the long weekend. We will be jumping into Unit 3 next week which is all about adding and subtracting fractions. We found out that multi-digits are similar to the one digit division problem PYP : This week we got in our lit circle groups and discussed about what we read. Our books are about the american revolution. Reading : This week we read our lit circle books for reading to self. We also finished our book HOME OF THE BRAVE !!! Buddies: This week week we met with our buddies. Mrs Maza read us the book the The Polar Express. After that we drank Hot Chocolate with our buddies Party: On Friday we had our class party! Math: This week we learned how to do long division. People struggled to learn the steps fully. We also learned how to show our steps in another way. People found out that using the method was way easier than long division. Reading: this week we wrote character traits in our books. Students focused all week on finding a trait in their book.Students had a lot of sticky notes in their book to show their character trait Writing: This week we started drafting our final publish for Personal narrative. We took our last writing piece grade and are going to make a final copy that determines our grade on this writing unit. Mr. Basham here: We also launched our "Where We Are In Place and Time" Literacy Circles (book groups). Students should be bringing home a non-fiction book about the Revolutionary War time period. They have agreed with their groups to read a certain number of pages over the weekend. They should be writing down notes that relate to our "Perspectives" line of inquiry, as well as any cause & effect relationships they notice. Math: This week we started converting units. We found out that we convert all the time, For example we convert 60 minutes into 1 hour. We started converting with decimals For example 1.5 L = (answer) mL. We took our end of the unit test friday! Writing : This week we got our published personal narrative pieceack and graded. Students wrote a reflection about what we will improve on in the next writing piece. We are going to write another writing piece and that is going to be our final PYP: This week we started our new unit Where We Are In Place And Time we found out the lines of inquiry: Causation: Actions, ideas and events; Change: Impact of actions, and events; Perspective: peoples wants and needs. We put them on posters around the room and we wrote connections and questions we had on them. We responded to each others ideas by saying we agree or disagree. Reading: This week we read our own book and found some character traits. We are still reading the book Home Of The Brave. From the desk of Press Secretary Nitham S.: Math: This week we drew area models. This showed us how to do traditional multiplication, we got this concept and we turned the multiplication problems into word problems! Reading: This week we continued to read the book Home Of The Brave. We Looked For character traits for the main character : Kek, Ganuar, Lou, Dave, Hannah Writing: We Published our personal narrative. Mr Basham is going to grade the writing piece. We went through a lot of steps such as Editing,Revising, and Publishing PYP: This week we worked in groups and tried to find answers to our main questions. In Unit 2 we are going to learn how to multiply 2 digits by 2 digits, divide 2 digits by 2 digits, and divide decimals!
